Tonia Farman, Founder & Director
Tonia had a vision for what was then Kiteboarding 4 Cancer while going through her brother’s experience with Leukemia, and watching him battle for his life. Scott passed away in June 2007, and Tonia's efforts as an advocate for cancer prevention and support took off. Tonia owns and runs Cascade Kiteboarding School in Hood River, Oregon, and spends the rest of her time and energy on Athletes for Cancer.
Garret Zallen, MD - Medical Advisor & Board President
Dr. Zallen is a Pediatric Surgeon at Peace Health in Springfield, Oregon. In addition to his specialty in minimal access surgery, he works with pediatric cancer patients on a daily basis. He has been named one of Portland's Top Docs for six years in a row and in addition to his work with A4C he maintains one of the busiest pediatric surgery practices in the region.
Brian attended Camp Koru as a volunteer counselor, opening his eyes to the challenges that young cancer survivors face in a way he'd never seen before. Brian is a licensed clinical social worker and wilderness therapist with years of experience and lots of acronymed titles we don't keep track of. His insight and direction on harnessing people's strengths in times of crisis has proved invaluable for Camp Koru.
