The Beneficiaries
Athletes for Cancer has chosen the following organizations for their outstanding commitment, energy, and allocation of resources and donations that promote prevention and early detection, as well as directly benefiting lives affected by cancer. These are very integral to the mission of A4C, focusing on quality of life and prevention through a healthy active lifestyle for reducing the risk of cancer and strengthening survivorship.
Athletes 4 Cancer | National
KB4C's goal from the very beginning was to some day host our own cancer program for young adults with cancer. That dream is becoming a reality in 2010 with a series of Survivorship Camps. These camps aim to foster self-confidence and strengthen survivorship through kiteboarding, standup paddling, and other outdoor adventure skills.
Athletes for Cancer camps will take these young adults on an experience that will challenge and inspire each person involved. With a team of professional instructors, we will safely embrace the elements — wind, swell, and water — to empower campers to overcome physical or psychological barriers brought on by cancer. 2011 camps include Kiteboarding, Standup Paddling, and Surf!
The John Wayne Cancer Foundation | National
KB4C has teamed up with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation in an effort to raise money for cancer research and awareness. After John Wayne’s own heroic battle with cancer, his family established the John Wayne Cancer Foundation (JWCF) to advance the fight against the illness. The John Wayne Cancer Foundation’s mission is to bring courage, strength and grit to the fight against cancer. Since its founding in 1985, the JWCF has supported awareness programs, education programs and support groups. JWCF has also been committed to groundbreaking cancer research and education at the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI).
JWCF is a strong supporter of the athletic community’s determination and passion to give to this cause, and we are thrilled to have them on our team. The mission of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation is to bring courage, strength, and grit to the fight against cancer. For more information on the JWCF, go to www.jwcf.org

The Next Door, Inc. | Hood River, Oregon
The Next Door runs a program called Nuestra Comunidad Sana, or "Our Healthy Community" which provides support groups, outreach efforts and education about breast cancer to the Columbia Gorge Latino community. Now open to all women in the community, Nuestra Comunidad Sana promotes early screening and prevention through mammogram support and education on healthy living. We strongly believe that the risk of cancer can be greatly reduced by taking preventative steps before it's too late. The Next Door Inc. is very proactive about community outreach in this area.
