Kiteboarding 4 Cancer

The 7th Annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer will take place July 12-14, 2013 in Hood River, Oregon. North America's largest amateur kiteboarding event will once again draw kiters from around the globe for a cause that touches all of us. Can't make it this year? Please consider a donation. Or maybe make a Board of Hope!

Funds raised at Kiteboarding 4 Cancer benefit Athletes 4 Cancer's Camp Koru Survivorship Program for Young Adults with Cancer. Sponsorship funds allow us to cover the expenses to put on KB4C, so that 100% of the funds raised through athlete fundraising, donations, silent auction, and Boards of Hope go directly to help young people affected by cancer.

How to Participate

Fundraise for FREE entry & prizes or purchase your entry...

Raise a minimum of $500 to get FREE registration into KB4C, VIP perks (special riding jersey), and you are eligible for cool fundraising prizes at different levels. Fundraising is OPEN NOW.

Registration is open - $75/individual, $300/team. This includes sponsor swag bag, entry into the Kite Derby Endurance Race, ticket to the Athlete & Community Dinner, ticket for lunch Saturday, an official KB4C shirt/jersey, drink tickets, access to the Athlete Lounge for all-day snacks, beverages, and massage and physical therapy sessions! That's a lot for $75!

Friday, July 12th

4:00-6:00 pm - Athlete Check-in : Hood River Event Site

Pre-registered athletes can check in, plus those last-minute kiters who want in on the action. Come get your goody bags, tees, wristbands and more for the weekend.

5:00-7:00 pm - Athlete & Community Waterfront Dinner : Hood River Event Site

An annual tradition, the kickoff dinner for our valued volunteers, athletes, Boards of Hope artists and event sponsors is an incredible spread of good food, good drinks, amazing desserts and a preview of the silent and live auction items.

8:30 pm - KB4C Kickoff Party : British Pub, 4th & Oak Downtown

Who doesn't love people fire dancers and hula hoopers hooping to live music?? We take over the corner of 4th & Oak at the British Pub parking lot for this unique and very entertaining event! Donations accepted at the entry. All proceeds benefit Athletes 4 Cancer's Camp Koru Survivorship Program.

Saturday, July 13th

8:00 am-5:30 pm: Registration, Kite Derby Endurance Race

The Kite Derby requires tenacity, endurance, and insane determination to finish the 6 hours and over 100 miles of kiteboarding on the Columbia River in this event. Claimed to be more difficult than running a marathon, the top finishers in this race will have kited more than 100 miles during the 6 hours.

8:00-9:45 am: Late Registration for Kite Derby

10:15 am: Riders launch
10:30 am: Kite Derby Endurance Race Start (weather-dependent) with One World Taiko Drummer Group
4:30-5:30 pm: Kite Derby Endurance Race, scheduled finish

10:00 am - 7:00 pm: Boards of Hope & Silent Auction

Boards of Hope is a community art project that unites artists and the boards we ride to create works of art that empower healing and celebrate life! Boards will be available for bid in the silent auction, with a select number of boards on display for live auction bidding at 6:30 pm on Saturday. Check out our Boards of Hope page for more info.

Don't kite? There are all sorts of activities going on at KB4C while the Kite Derby Endurance Race is on for 6 hours! In addition to Boards of Hope and the Silent Auction, there will be an art studio for the kids, a KB4C photobooth, live music all day, and cancer program partners sharing valuable information on how to live a healthy lifestyle focused on prevention and survivorship. Local food vendors will be dishing up good food sourced by Hood River & Gorge local farms and vendors. Finish that off with an IPA or Lager from our very own Full Sail Brewing, who sponsors the beer garden.

10:00 am - 4:00 pm: Kite Relay Races & Never-Ever-Windsurfed-Before Race

You thought Saturday was full of action. Just wait until Sunday. This is when all the kite action turns to the beach. Yes, that's right. We have a kite relay race that takes place directly in front of the event site lawn. Some of it actually takes place on the lawn. Next we move on to our very first Never-Ever-Windsurfed-Before Race. The name by itself should make you want to be there to witness this one-of-a-kind event.
