Camp Koru Survivorship Program
Camp Koru is our adventure retreat program that empowers young cancer fighters and survivors, ages 18-39, to find healing, achievement, and life renewal through active outdoor experiences in the ocean and the mountains.
Camps run for 3 to 6 days, are set in amazing locations, and best of all... are FREE to cancer survivors!
Who are these camps for?
Camp Koru is a retreat for cancer survivors ages 18-39 (under 44) seeking to kick start their lives after cancer and meet others seeking to do the same. If you are open-minded, committed to trying something new, and taking positive action steps in your life, Camp Koru is for you. Here is what to expect at Camp.
Participants are given the proper tools, professional instruction, and focused encouragement required to take on new challenges, such as – surfing, standup paddling, outrigger canoeing, and snowboarding. The journey is shared with your peer survivors and the relationships formed at camp. Through the experience, survivors learn to overcome fears and face life's challenges, ultimately find their own ass-kicking potential after cancer.
Camp Koru adventure retreats promote a healthy model for survivorship, and help survivors find direction and life renewal by providing an attainable platform for personal success, self-growth, and achievement.
All camps are FREE for survivors to attend. On occasion, we host special trips where a fundraising component may be required. Participants must arrange and cover their travel to camp.
Fundraise for airfare: If you cannot afford airfare/travel to camp, there is an option to fundraise just $1000 for your round-trip airline ticket to camp. To fundraise for airfare to camp, apply to camp first, then become a fundraiser from our Travel Scholarship Fund page. Tell your story on your page and why you want to attend camp, and you will be surprised how quickly you will reach your $1000 goal. You must be approved to attend camp in order to qualify to receive a Fundraise-for-airfare ticket. For complete details, please review our Travel Scholarships & Fundraise-for-Airfare Info Sheet.
Camps are open to young adult survivors with diagnosis between the ages 18-40.

Sunset Swim Charity Event is a swimwear runway event organized by Athletes 4 Cancer Ambassador and bikini designer Sensi Graves. The event highlights Sensi's line and other swimwear brands. There is a live auction and raffle as well! A super fun event if you're ever in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Sunset Swim event has raised over $28,000 for Athletes 4 Cancer since 2011.
The Round the Rock SUP Race in Seattle, WA takes place each September on Lake Washington and is a great event for anyone to participate in and provides a glimpse of what it's like to challenge yourself like we do at Camp Koru. The event is a 13-mile paddle around Mercer Island in Lake Washington and is much harder than one thinks. Round the Rock has raised over $34,000 for Athletes 4 Cancer since 2013!
Kiteboarding 4 Cancer is Athletes 4 Cancer's biggest annual fundraiser that brings in over $100,000 for our programming each year. This unique event takes place in beautiful Hood River, Oregon, home to outdoor enthusiasts and recreationalists. Hood River truly embodies what Camp Koru is all about (healing through the empowering properties of the outdoors and the elements) so it's only fitting to have our biggest celebratory fundraiser right here.
