- "Camp was the experience I needed after cancer. It was a way to be on even levels with people that share the same struggles/experience in life and be able to just have fun and not be the outcast in certain situations." – Lakeshow
Camp Koru Survivorship Program
KORU is our adventure retreat program that empowers young cancer fighters and survivors, ages 18-40, to find healing, achievement, and life renewal through active outdoor experiences in the ocean and the mountains.
Camps run for 3 to 6 days, are set in amazing locations, and best of all... are FREE to cancer survivors!

Participants are given the proper tools, professional instruction, and focused encouragement required to take on new challenges, such as – surfing, standup paddling, outrigger canoeing, and snowboarding. The journey is shared with your peer survivors and the relationships formed at camp. Through the experience, survivors learn to overcome fears and face life's challenges, ultimately find their own ass-kicking potential after cancer.
The KORU adventure retreats promote a healthy model for survivorship, and help survivors find direction and life renewal by providing an attainable platform for personal success, self-growth, and achievement.
All camps are FREE for survivors to attend. On occasion, we host special trips where a fundraising component may be required. Currently, participants must arrange and cover their travel to camp. Inquire about travel scholarships by sending us an email at info (at) athletes4cancer.org. Camps are open to young adult survivors with diagnosis between the ages 18-40.

The generosity of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation helped Athletes for Cancer start and carry out this program in 2011 and for our camps in 2012. JWCF and Athletes for Cancer share a mutual vision for harnessing the healing powers of physical activity and the outdoors to bring courage, strength, and grit to the fight against cancer.
A huge thank you to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation for their ongoing support of this program!
